4.
fine, kaolinitic, thermic Typic Kanhapludult
(Cecil series)

This soil is one of the most extensive in the southeastern USA. It is estimated that Cecil soils are on nearly 1/3 of the Piedmont uplands, where they occur on ridges and side slopes. Cecil soils form from felsic igneous and metamorphic rocks and are mapped from Virginia to Alabama. The Bt horizons typically have clay textures and may contain up to 70% clay. The Bt horizons comprise what is known as a kandic horizon in Soil Taxonomy, which is a diagnostic horizon dominated by low-activity clays such as kaolinite and hydroxy-interlayered vermiculite.
