Humic Eutrocryept
(McCall series)
McCall soils occur on relatively young glacial deposits in central Idaho. Mean annual precipitation is ~25" (630 mm). Only limited development is seen in these youthful soils - organic matter has accumulated in the surface horizon (umbric epipedon) and blocky structure has formed in the Bw (cambic) horizon.
Because
they contain a large percentage of rock fragments, they have very
low water-holding capacity. This, coupled with the cold climate,
limits their forestry and agricultural potential.
