One of my favorite hobbies since my retirement has been coordinating and running the State 4-H and FFA land/soil evaluation events throughout the state of IDAHO each year. Over 500 students participate in 5 regional events and the state event at Burley, Idaho. I started the Maynard Fosberg endowment when I retired that provides funds to support the 4-H and FFA land/soil evaluation events. This endowment also provides a yearly scholarship to an incoming soil science freshman at the University of Idaho. Maynard is pictured here showing his excitement after students help him transfer a monolith collected from Rogerson with help from the Idaho NRCS office. This is almost a full time hobby collecting monoliths and repairing as well as doing workshops for the IDAHO State FFA Association. Each agriculture instructor learns how to collect a soil monolith to use in their classroom for a teaching unit about soils. |
