Maynard A. Fosberg

Welcomes you to IDAHO and Soil Science!

One of my favorite hobbies since my retirement has been coordinating and running the State 4-H and FFA land/soil evaluation events throughout the state of IDAHO each year.  Over 500 students participate in 5 regional events and the state event at Burley, Idaho.   I started the Maynard Fosberg endowment when I retired that provides funds to support the 4-H and FFA land/soil evaluation events.   This endowment also provides a yearly scholarship to an incoming soil science freshman at the University of Idaho.  If you are interested in information about this scholarship and others, please contact the PSES, College of Agriculture or myself.

Maynard is pictured here showing his excitement after students help him transfer a monolith collected from Rogerson with help from the Idaho NRCS office.  This is almost a full time hobby collecting monoliths and repairing as well as doing workshops for the IDAHO State FFA Association.  Each agriculture instructor learns how to collect a soil monolith to use in their classroom for a teaching unit about soils.
